The village of Kovanice is located on the left bank of the Elbe river, by road no. 38 between the towns of Nymburk and Poděbrady. The cemetery is located 500 m west of the village, behind the agricultural cooperative on the edge of the field on the right side of the asphalt road. The cemetery was founded in 1830 and the oldest tombstone dates from 1833. Burials were held here until 1945. The grandmother of the writer Franz Kafka is also buried here.
