Just like Valašské Meziříčí, the town of Velké Meziříčí with eleven thousand inhabitants - and located in the eastern part of the Vysočina region - was founded at the confluence of two rivers. While the Wallachian settlement (Valmez) was built at the confluence of Rožnovská and Vsetínská Bečva, Velké Meziříčí, also known as "Velmez", grew up at the junction of Balinka and Oslava.
