This important pilgrimage site is located approx. 6 km west of the Old Town (Uherské Hradiště district). Velehrad was mentioned as the village of Veligrad as early as 1131. In 1205, a Cistercian monastery was founded here, which was then abolished in 1784. At the beginning of the 13th century, the monastery church was built as a basilica with a transept, from which the apses have been preserved.
