One of the most important and oldest monuments of Tábor is the Kotnov lookout tower near Bechyňská brány. The Kotnov Tower is a remnant of Hradiště Castle founded together with the town in 1270 by King Přemysl Otakar II. The direct written mention of Hradiště Castle dates back to 1370.
