The mountain town of Svoboda nad Úpou is located in the Trutnov district in the eastern part of the Giant Mountains at the confluence of the Úpa and the Janské potok. It is gradually becoming a sought-after recreation center mainly because of its location, which is the starting point for visiting parts of the eastern Giant Mountains - Janské Lázně, Pece Pod Snežkou and Veľká and Mala Úpa. The altitude of Svoboda is 518 meters.
