Bear cave in the Úpa valley
There are many places in the Giant Mountains that have revealed their secrets. One of them is Medvědí jeskyně (630 m above sea level) in the Úpa valley near Dolní Maršov and Svoboda nad Úpou. The cave was discovered at the end of the 19th century at the foot of a limestone quarry. It is 5,5 meters long. It is estimated, based on the configuration of the terrain, that it was 10 to 15 meters longer before mining began in the quarry.
