The town of Nové Hrady is in South Bohemia, not far from the border with Austria, 32 km southeast of České Budějovice on the northern edge of the Novohrady Mountains. The first mansion in Nové Hrady was a castle built on the foundations of a fortified hillfort, commemorated in 1279.
