It is an early winter evening. Night darkness creeps up on the snow-covered Šumava, and after 170 kilometers of journey from muddy Prague, it seems as if our pilgrimage should have no end. In the evening gloom, enhanced by the gray sky filled with snow clouds, we can only guess the opposite side of the valley, and the road literally gets lost in the white plain in front of us at times.
