The original name of the place was Hoštice, and the first surviving written mention is from 1318. At that time, Oldřich z Potštejn owned the village, in which the fortress was probably also located. In 1783, the name Střelohoštice was used, and only from 1924 it became Střelské Hoštice. The castle in the Renaissance style was built by the Pešík family from Komárov.
