The first mention of Velichov dates back to 1142. From that time until 1336, the village belonged to the Doksanské Monastery. Then the monastery ceded it in exchange to King John of Luxembourg, and Velichov became a Manx estate of the nearby royal castle Hauenstein /High Castle/.
The local fortress was first mentioned in 1528. From this year, the Hauenstein estate was held by the Šliks, and the Velichov fortress was leased by the trustees...
