As early as 1227, Valtice was considered a town and therefore it can be assumed that the so-called Old Town was surrounded by walls even then. The height of the walls was about 2,5 m and the width was 1 meter. The building material was Carpathian sandstone from the nearby Reistenberge hill. Before the Napoleonic troops, the walls were raised in some places up to 5-7,5 m. From a defensive point of view, in the later period of reconstruction, they already fulfilled their function.…
