The old castle in Nové Hrady
The first written mention of the castle dates from 1279, when it was the property of Vítkovec Ojíř. The castle was probably built in the first half of the 13th century as a guard point near the trade route crossing the land border here. It stands on an approx. 50 m high promontory surrounded by the Stropnicí river and the Novohradské stream. It is surrounded by a massive, 14 m deep moat.
