Sokolnice - aviators' memorial

On the road from Sokolnice to Telnice, near the railway crossing, there is an inconspicuous monument as a reminder of the tragic event that took place in these places on April 11, 1989.
Lt. Col. Vladimír Mikeš and Maj. Karol Bencalík died here while simulating a combat flight on a training aircraft MiG-21US (no. 0746). While training to search for a low-flying helicopter, they lost speed and their machine shattered on the ground.
