The first stone bridge - Stone bridge in Písek

The Stone Bridge in Písek is the oldest surviving bridge in the Czech Republic and at the same time it is the second oldest bridge in Central Europe. Already before the year 1300, it connected the banks of the Otava.
To this day, it is not known exactly when the bridge was built, but the first mention is from 1348, when King Karel IV. he gave an order that the fines collected in the city should be used for the repairs of this bridge. The original name of the bridge was…
