Jáchymov was one of the 400 Czech towns with the right of throat. The place of execution had to be in such a place that it could be easily seen from the city. It was meant to remind the city's residents and passers-by that the city has a strict right and punishes offenders severely.
The development of mining in the 16th century around Jáchymov was conditioned by the large consumption of wood. And so the slopes around Jáchymov were deforested.
