The town of Ostrov is located in the Karlovy Vary Region at the foot of the Ore Mountains and has over 17 inhabitants. The oldest preserved building monument is the church of St. Jacob the Elder. This late Romanesque building from 1224-1226 proves settlement at the beginning of the 13th century. The city began to emerge on an elevated site on the left bank of the Bystřice river.
