Medlice Castle was built sometime around 1249 by Olomouc bishop Bruno of Schauenburg, Ludvík of Mödlitz, commemorated in the years 1249-83, on a high rock promontory above the Moravicí river near the village of Medlice, which is mentioned as early as 1131 as property of the Olomouc chapter.
