The royal city of Velvary

It is not known when Velvay acquired city rights, because the city archive with the oldest documents fell ill in 1482. It seems more likely that the emperor and king Karel IV. elevated Velvary to a city after 1378. Velvar's position among the royal cities was somewhat peculiar. In the pre-Hussite period, they were not administered by the royal under-chamber, like other royal cities, but by the highest porgrave of Prague Castle.…
