The Johann Palisa Observatory and Planetarium can be found in the Porubské les area, which stretches between the city districts of Ostrava, namely Poruba and Krásný Pole. The building of the observatory and planetarium was built in 1980. The building houses the third largest projection hall of the planetarium in the Czech Republic.
