Paradoxically, the new Jewish cemetery was established by order of the Nazis during the occupation in 1939, in the area behind the communal cemetery on the eastern edge of the city. It is located about 2 km northeast of the central Masaryk Square, at the end of Purkyňova Street, adjacent to the city's Christian cemetery.
