The ruins of the Žumberk castle

At the turn of the 12th and 13th centuries, Žumberk Castle was built on a steep slope above the Ležák River, sometimes also called Holetínka. The first documented owner of the castle was Pilunk from Žumberk. During the following centuries, the owners of the castle often changed. At the end of the 16th century, when Žumberk was in the possession of Václav Záruba from Hustířany, the castle was rebuilt in the Renaissance. Remnants of this rebuilding have been preserved to this day…
