A medieval castle stood on an oval ridge west of Chocna, above the left bank of Tichá Orlice and the railway line from Chocna to Týniště nad Orlicí. In the second half of the 14th century, it was founded by Karel IV or the lords of Lichtemburg as a replacement for the older Choceň castle destroyed in 1338 during the campaign of Margrave Karel against the robber lord Mikuláš of Potštejn.
