Starý Žeberk Castle was the highest castle in the Ore Mountains. It served to protect the trade route from Saxony to Bohemia. The castle, which was not easily accessible, had problems with water and it was difficult to transport supplies to it. That is why the lords of Seeberg decided to build a new castle - Nový Žeberk.
