The special name of the village originated from the word "ubl" (in Old Slavonic gbl), which denoted a spring or a well. The first written mention of the village dates back to 1450. At that time, it belonged to the Cistercian Vizovice Monastery of Smilheim with all the land and subjects, and the deed mentions the sale of the Ubel fiefdom.
