A wooden covered bridge originally stood at this place, which until 1885 was the only link with the part of the city on the right bank of the Elbe, if we do not count the narrow footbridge made of the same material, on which one walked through the fort under the town hall "To the island" and further along the narrow field road " On birds" to Josefov. We no longer know when this bridge was first built. It stood here already in the Middle Ages, perhaps shortly after it was built...
