The dam, built in 1953, served as a source of drinking water for the town of Žďár nad Sázavou. A stream of the same name flows through the dam, which is included in the Natura 2000 project for the occurrence of common crowfish. It is no longer used as a source of drinking water, it is replaced by the Mostiště and Vír dams. However, it is still led by the Vltava basin as a backup resource, recreational use is therefore prohibited.
