Statue of St. Joseph with Baby Jesus in Velké Meziříčí

In Velkomeziříčská Sokolovská street stands a baroque statue of St. Joseph with the baby Jesus in his arms and two little angels sitting on a pedestal. The sculpture was carved in 1735 by the local sculptor Alexander Jelínek on the order of the local master baker Jakub Kolovrátek, as the inscription on the plinth still informs us. Against the backdrop of mostly modern civilizational settings, the work seems somewhat absurd today (see photo)...
