Statue of Captain Jaroš
Otakar Jaroš was an example of a First Republic officer, devoted to Masaryk's ideals of a free and democratic Czechoslovakia, who laid down his life with Sokolov in the fight for these ideals. The great paradox is that he was awarded the title of Hero of the USSR, although he was a great anti-Bolshevik, and in his company he is said to have fiercely resisted all attempts at Bolshevik indoctrination of the unit. He was promoted to captain posthumously in May 1943.…
