Sloup is mainly a recreational village, located in the wide valley of the Dobranovské stream at the northwestern foot of the Svojkovské vrchy, about 3 km southeast of Nové Bor. It has about 700 inhabitants and is a popular resort thanks to its interesting monuments and picturesque surroundings. Previously, it also included the southwestern settlement of Janov, which today is part of Nové Bor.
