According to tradition, at the end of the 18th century, a shoemaker was supposed to teach in the village. The school building was built only in 1804 at the joint expense of the lordship and the surrounding municipalities (Starého and Nové Hradiště, Hrádek, Hradiště na Písek, Stéblová, Pohránova and Ohrazenice) headed by the governor Josef Štěnička.
