The local landscape northeast of Nové Bydžov was already inhabited in the Stone Age. The first mention of the village dates from 1363, when it belonged to the Zemans of Podolib. Its name should express the fact that it was a village of people who liked the land (having "the land at will"). In 1503, it was owned by Petr Zvířetický from Vartenberk.
