It is said that when the Saxons and later the Swedes sacked Nymburk during the Thirty Years' War, they did it so thoroughly that only a little over 20 people survived. As a result, it was forgotten what was where, because many buildings were demolished or otherwise devastated. In some places, residents even had to abandon the unfinished work.
