The second half of the 17th century saw, among other things, an increased occurrence of columns in sculpture, which we generally call plague columns, although not all of them were built in memory of overcoming the calamity represented by plague epidemics. Columns were also built in memory of some famous victory, in the end even after a natural disaster.
