In the Middle Ages, the Krkonoše Mountains were called Riesengebirge (der Riese = Giant) - Giant Mountains in Czech, Sněžka was Riesenberg - Giant Mountain. Today you can also see on local information boards in English translations the expression Giant mountains = Obrí hory, although I personally think that the local names should not be translated.
