Modrý potok is the third official tributary of the Úpa river, the first tributary is Rudný potok, which originates on the slopes of Sněžka, and the second is Studniční potok, which flows from Studniční hora. Modrý potok rises at the foot of Luční hora at an altitude of about 1500 meters and flows into Modrý dol, from which it also gets its name.
