The Royal City of Nymburk

The ancient royal city of Nymburk is located in the Polabean Plain along both banks of the Elbe River. It was built on the foundations of a prehistoric fortification, which is evidenced by numerous archaeological finds. The city was founded around 1275 during the reign of King Přemysl Otakar II. A massive medieval fortress with walls and moats was built on the Elbe. During the Thirty Years' War, the city was completely looted and burned…
