Rejšten and the nearby Kašperské Hory formed a single entity in the Middle Ages, which was first mentioned as early as 1337. It became an independent town only in 1584 by the decision of Emperor Rudolph II. The town's history was connected with gold mining and later with the production of extraordinarily beautiful glass.
