České Budějovice - The Iron Maiden

The castle tower, formerly called "Špilhajbl" after its owner, probably dates from the end of the 14th century. It is one of the two towers of the former Gothic fortifications of the city. The second preserved tower of the Gothic fortification is the Rabštejnská tower.
The name of the tower "Iron Maiden" is, according to a romantic legend, derived from the torture instrument that was allegedly located there. The tower served mainly to defend the city. It was stored here…
