In 1906, a factory for the production of soda was founded in Neštěmice. Soda was produced according to the patent of the Belgian chemist Ernst Salvay from limestone, salt and coke. After 1945, the factory was nationalized and named TONASO /soda factory/. It became the largest producer of soda in Czechoslovakia.
