The ruins of Veliš Castle near Jičín

Kousíček from Jičín, in the Hradec Králové Region, once stood in the 14th century (and probably much earlier) as one of the impregnable castles of the Czech Republic. It stood on Veliš hill (432 m above sea level), right next to the village of the same name. Today only its remains remain, but once the royal castle of Veliš was quite extensive and important. He earned his fame during the Thirty Years' War, when he was unsuccessfully besieged by the Swedes.…
