The first thing that stood here was the castle on the hill above the village, which was built sometime in the 13th century, if not much earlier. The first documented mention of Potštejn comes from 1259 in the charter of privileges of the city of Litomyšle, in which Půta from Potštejn appears as a witness. Another surviving written mention is from 1312, in which it is written about Procko from Potštejn and his son Mikuláš, who because of disagreements with King Jan...
