Žacléř - mining open-air museum

The town of Žacléř, located near the Polish border north of Trutnov, is known primarily for its mining past. The first mention of coal mining dates back to 1570, when Jakob Rabem from Opau received permission to search and mine. In the next two centuries, the local coal deposits attracted a number of small entrepreneurs. Actual mining began before the end of the 18th century due to a shortage of firewood. The mining boom…
