Behind a unique group of forest beeches to the Hukvaldy nature reserve

The village of Hukvaldy is not only known as the birthplace of the important Czech music composer Leoš Janáček, but also as a beautiful field of study, the oldest in the Czech Republic. The nature reserve at Hukvaldy was founded in 1565-1572 by Olomouc bishop Vilém Prusínovský, who spent the summer months at the local castle and the adjacent estate. The nature reserve has an area of approximately 440 ha and mouflons, fallow deer and black mouflons are bred here.
