Vyšší Brod and the Cistercian monastery

The Cistercian monastery in Vyšší Brod was founded on June 1, 1259, on an elevated site above the river. The place was about an hour's drive from Rožmberk, where the founder, the nobleman Vok, came from. He called Cistercians from Austrian Wilhering to Vyšší Brod.
