This year we commemorate 100 years since the outbreak of the Great War, as it was then called. At that time, perhaps no one would have believed that it would actually be only a "relatively" modest prelude to the much more brutal killing some twenty years later after the end of World War I (as it is called today).
After a relatively long period of peace, the war must have been an incredible shock, and it also brought a long period of hardship...
