Uhlířské Janovice was founded sometime in the 13th century, but the first written mention dates back to 1362. It was probably originally a vassal settlement with a fortress and a church. In 1540, they are already mentioned as a small town and since 1739 they have been a city. There are several interesting monuments in the city and the most valuable is the church of St. Lily.
