The Třinec ironworks, which the locals call nothing else than ``Werk,'' belong to an industrial enterprise with the longest tradition in metallurgical production. They were founded in 1839 by the Těšín Chamber during the reign of Archduke Karl Habsburg. The first tapping of iron took place in Třinec on April 1, 1839, in the then charcoal furnace.
