Stropnice is the largest and most important right-hand tributary of the Malše River.
The romantic river rises on the border of the Czech Republic with Austria on the southeastern slope of Vysoké (1.034 m) at an altitude of 780 m above sea level in the Novohradské hory mountains. From the source, it flows in a northerly direction to Nový Hrady, beyond which its course turns to the northwest. Here, its flow leads through the romantic Terčino údolí nature park.
