At the end of the 19th century, the village of Trnovany tried to get the status of a town. For this step, however, it was necessary for the church to stand on its cadastre. The association for the construction of the church was established in 1895, but due to delays on the part of the opponents of the church, the actual construction did not begin until 1907.
