The Prague Zoological Garden was opened on September 28, 1931. It is located in a beautiful place, in rugged hilly terrain, in the wooded part of the Trojská kotlina. The zoo covers an area of 60 hectares, of which 50 hectares are the animal estate. The very first animal in the garden was the she-wolf Lotta.
